What is Autism?

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 36 children in the United States today.

ABOUT US
Many children on the autism spectrum need support in learning how to navigate different social situations. They often want to interact with others but may not know how to engage with friends or may feel overwhelmed by new experiences. With practice and encouragement, social skills can grow, helping children participate more fully in the community and build meaningful friendships that lead to greater happiness and confidence.
At Perfect Fit Autism Foundation, we believe every child deserves a place where they feel accepted, supported, and celebrated. Founded in 2019 by two mothers, Retrina Mays and Nicole Howard-Francis, both raising sons on the autism spectrum, Perfect Fit was created to address the social challenges children with autism often face.
Our mission is to provide free, inclusive, and culturally responsive programs that build social skills, strengthen family connections, and promote community awareness. Guided by the belief that “Connecting is the key… one piece at a time,” we are dedicated to helping children on the spectrum, participate in meaningful experiences, and thrive in environments that honor their individuality.
Our programs include the Superhero Autism Social Skills Summer Camp, the Annual Autism Fun Run & 5K, monthly social outings such as bowling, skating, and baking, and seasonal family events like holiday celebrations and Mom’s Night Out..

Through these activities and partnerships, we are building a community to help children and families access care, live more active lifestyles, and grow toward PERFECTLY FITTING into society in their own unique way
